Elgar International Festival of Brass

8th June 2025 12:00 pm

Elgar International Festival of Brass.

The EIFoB has quickly established itself as one of the leading brass music festivals. Whether you are a connoisseur of brass music, an occasional listener, or new to the medium, our Festival will have something for everyone, from arguably the finest chamber brass ensemble in the World, to bands that have dominated the World rankings from the day that rankings began! Add BBC Radio 2’s Frank Renton as compere and we have the ingredients for a very special two days in the beautiful surroundings of Malvern Theatre.

The Cory Band (from South Wales)
Cory Band hail from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. They were crowned Grand Slam champions in 2019 having won the European, British Open, National Championships of Great Britain plus Brass in Concert for the second time in three years.

The band is dedicated to new music, raising the profile of the brass band genre and keeping music alive in Wales. They are recognised as one of the Principality’s finest and most innovative music ensembles. The band’s current ‘Composer in Residence’ is Christopher Bond.

The Fodens Band (From Sandbach)
The band currently holds the record for the number of Area Contest wins with an unprecedented 26 North West Area titles. Around the world Foden’s Band is a trademark that musicians associate with inestimable class and musicianship.

The association which Foden’s has with the most respected and renowned conductors Bramwell Tovey, Allan Withington, Howard Snell, Nicholas Childs and Michael Fowles has developed the band’s ever increasing repertoire and also their standards to unprecedented levels, allowing them to provide audiences with musically aesthetic performances as well as stepping outside the boundaries of the usual brass band concert repertoire.

The Black Dyke Band (from Yorkshire)
Formed in 1855, most of its musicians lived in Queensbury and worked at the mill, so a close link between the Band and the community was created, which remains to this day.

The Band continues its work to promote the great musical tradition of the Brass Band. It retains its place at the very zenith of this musical tradition under the leadership of Professor Nicholas J. Childs, one of the leading figures in the worldwide brass community.
