The Wife (15)

12th October 2018 - 18th October 2018

A prolific writer is travelling to Sweden with his wife to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. But while he dwells on his many achievements, his wife looks back on her decades with a man who is not all that his reputation suggests. Based on the novel of the same name by Meg Wolitzer, The Wife is a dark comedy starring Hollywood legend Glenn Close.

Joan Castleman (Glenn Close) has been a devoted wife and confidante to her husband, Joe (Jonathan Pryce), for many years. A successful and highly celebrated writer, Joe has relied on his wife to consistently take a back seat in her own life to help him achieve his ambitions. And it has worked well for him: the pair are on a plane to Sweden, where Joe will receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.

A badly dealt with confrontation with a writer (Christian Slater) who is determined to writer Joe’s autobiography leads Joan to tell her husband that he needs to be more diplomatic. While his lack of tact sends current events spiralling into a disaster, Joan contemplates the past decades as a famous writer’s wife.

Once a promising writer in her own right, Joan sacrificed it all to be Joe’s doting wife, without whom Joe may have never succeeded. A marriage of betrayal, dashed dreams, and extreme devotion, Joan and Joe’s marriage is plunged under the spotlight.

The Wife stars Hollywood heavyweight Glenn Close (The Girl with All the Gifts, Fatal Attraction), Johnathan Pryce (The White King) and Christian Slater (True Deception). Based on the novel of the same name by Meg Wolitzer, The Wife has received rave reviews, and promises to show star Glenn Close at her very best.
