Malvern Theatres Young Company

Malvern Theatres Young Company, started in 2012, is our ongoing project that offers an opportunity to young people aged 8-25 to be a part of professionally-led productions under the mentorship of a professional crew of directors, choreographers, costume, set and lighting designers. It is conducted in August every year and includes significant mentoring, intensive rehearsals, and seven performances in the Forum Theatre. The Company has so far showcased 22 select productions including both drama and musicals in the past, some of which have also gone on to Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Over 180 young people have participated in this programme previously. Having benefitted in the early stages of their career, around 80% of the alumni have gone on to work in the industry.

To be able to keep this programme accessible to all, we try and keep the participation costs as low as possible and offer a range of flexible payment plans, as well as need-based student bursaries (we offered two full, two part bursaries, as well as two reduced participations last year).

This year our Young Company is presenting a short play (Bronte) and a musical (Jesus Christ Superstar) with 45 young and emerging actors in it. As a significant step forward, our short play will complete a tour of the Midlands venues (Crescent Theatre and Albany Theatre), supporting the local art industry while providing participants with invaluable touring experience, which will only strengthen their prospects.

You can support Young Company by making a donation at Box Office, sponsoring a participant’s fee, or by simply attending one of the performances: (insert ticket link). You can also email adhishri@malvern-theatres.co.uk to discuss ways to support this programme.
