Malvern Theatres Association (MTA)
President: Mark James
Chair: Judith Gudgeon
The Malvern Theatres Association (MTA) was founded in 1964 to support the Malvern Festival Theatre, which at that time was under threat of closure. Since then, the MTA has played a vitally important role in the support and maintenance of the Theatre complex.
Member events and activities, both social and fundraising, have altered over the years to meet the changing needs of the Theatre. Computers and staff now do tasks which were once the province of volunteer members: no longer does a merry band gather to stuff hundreds of brochures into envelopes!
However, what has very much remained constant is the key contribution the MTA makes; the provision of volunteer staff for Front of House duties. This saves the Theatre many thousands of pounds a year.
MTA fundraising has enabled donations in excess of £50,000 for equipment throughout the building
This equipment includes:
- Wall clock in the downstairs Foyer, commissioned from renowned silversmith and clockmaker Marianne Forrest
- Lighting and communications equipment
- Hearing system
- Furniture, including child booster seats for our younger patrons
- New heating
- Stair Handrails in the theatre circle
- Rear exit door converted for use in winter, to save heat-loss from the foyer
The MTA has also helped sponsor the Malvern Theatres Young Company, including productions of Antigone and Under Milk Wood, which were both performed at the Edinburgh Festival

The MTA is run by a Committee of twelve Members, who meet regularly to ensure its smooth running, as well as organising fund-raising and social events.
Due to the upcoming closure of our Forum Theatre while we undergo renovation works, we regrettably cannot accept any new volunteer applications until early 2027. Should you wish to be added to our volunteer waiting list, please contact our Front of House Coordinator, Jill, by emailing frontofhouse@cheerful.com
