Beethoven – Haydn – Schubert
Conducted by Leon Bosch | Trumpet soloist David Blackadder
Beethoven Coriolan Overture
Haydn Trumpet Concerto
Schubert Symphony No. 9 in C major ‘The Great’
Titan of the historical trumpet David Blackadder joins us to perform Haydn’s much-loved Trumpet Concerto—the first concerto composed for the newly-invented keyed trumpet, which enabled players to access notes and tonalities that weren’t available on the earlier natural trumpet. David will be playing a copy of the instrument developed at the end of the 18th century by Anton Weidinger – the virtuoso for whom Haydn composed the concerto—giving us a chance to hear what the new instrument must have sounded like to its first audiences.
