An astoundingly beautiful animation that is driven by the joy and confusion of a little girl’s discovery of the world and her place within it.

In late 1960s Japan, Belgian toddler Amélie finds the world a perplexing mystery until a rapturous encounter with chocolate ignites her wild sense of curiosity about, well, everything. Exploring the wonders of nature, Amélie develops a deep bond with the housekeeper, Nishio-san, and begins to understand the painful history beneath the surface of her family’s idyllic existence as foreigners in postwar Japan. Adapted from the autobiographical novel by Amélie Nothomb, this is a wondrous story about the healing power of connection.
