IRELAND, 2024, 1 HOUR 29 MINUTES, ENGLISH
A loose adaptation of Gianni Di Gregorio’s Mid-August Lunch (2008) turns out a touching, often funny and intimate tribute to middle-aged Irish gay men and their working class matriarchs.
James McArdle plays Edward, a queer up-andcoming novelist under pressure to embark on a US book tour while caring for his elderly mother. His problems are compounded when his three best friends head off to Spain on an impromptu Pride holiday – and leave their own ageing mothers under Edward’s wing. The challenge for the placid Edward is to meet the demands of four eccentric, combative, and wildly different ladies over the course of one chaotic weekend while keeping his career afloat.
