AUTUMN IN MALVERN
Great Malvern Priory
The Elgar Chorale
Conducted by Piers Maxim with John Upperton (Tenor), Christopher Allsop (Organ) and Nia Evans (Harp)
Following their successful concert in last year’s festival, The Elgar Chorale returns under the direction of Piers Maxim with a programme including works by Brahms, Janacek, Elgar and Coleridge Taylor. At the heart of the concert are Janacek’s powerful setting of the Lord’s Prayer and Elgar’s Spirit of England, the composer’s last major choral work. A heartfelt setting of poems by Laurence Binyon, the piece is Elgar’s response to the horrors of the First World War.
Programme to include:
Coleridge-Taylor: Te Deum in F Op.18 No.1
Brahms: Geistliches Lied
Janacek: The Lord’s Prayer
Brahms: Schicksalslied
Coleridge-Taylor: Jubilate in F Op.18 No.3
Elgar: The Spirit of England
